Preparing for your Plexr Plasma Pen Procedure
Prior to your appointment, remove all makeup and thoroughly cleanse your skin.
1 day before your treatment avoid any alcohol and keep to a low salt diet to assure the best healing and minimize swelling.
1 week before your treatment start to take slow release Vitamin C and Arnica to promote healing and reduce swelling.
Avoid any kind of tanning (spray tanning, sun tanning and tanning beds) for 2 to 4 weeks before your treatment. Ideally, you should try to use SPF5O to prep your skin for 2 to 4 weeks before your treatment, especially if you are naturally darker skinned.
Avoid any other type of procedures on the same area which you intend to have treated with Plasma such as laser therapy, chemical peels, Botox or fillers, as this may prevent your treatment being performed by New Skin by Lynn when you want it.
No facial acids (Retin A, salicylic, glycolic) 14 days before and for 21 days after Your treatment.
No Botox or fillers 21 days before or after treatment.
No Microneedling 21 days before or after treatment.
No laser or peels (depending on intensity of peel) for 90 days before or after treatment.
Surgical procedures such as face lifts require a wait of at least 9 months postop/before a Plasma treatment.
You can resume normal activities immediately after your treatment but hold off with any exercise for 3 days. We recommend NOT exercising right after a treatment because any heat, steam, or sweat could add to the inflammation that’s already present.
A sensation like sunburn is often felt, if you feel particularly aware of the treatment area acetaminophen can be taken, avoid ibuprofen as this can increase swelling.
You will leave the treatment with tiny carbon dots – Do not rub, scratch, pick, peel or pull at the carbon crusts, it is essential that you wait for these to flake away naturally. If the area itches we recommend gently tapping the area with clean fingertips not nails.
Leave the treated area alone until the next day. This includes direct contact by sweat and shower spray.
The next morning, start using our specially formulated antibacterial spray and nutrient rich camoflauge cream. These will be issued to you as part of your home care regimen along with further instructions.
Continue to take Vitamin C and Arnica to promote healing and reduce swelling.
Swelling is to be expected for the first 1-5 days after treatment (recovery times differ depending on factors like your age and general health). This is a normal reaction and part of the initial stages of the healing and rejuvenation process. DO NOT apply ice or cold packs as this will diminish the outcome. Typically, swelling will be worse on day 2-3 and will have subsided by day 5-7.
In the eye area especially, swelling peaks upon waking first thing in the morning. Over the course of the first 1-3 days, it is normal for the swelling to migrate down into the under-eye area. This will generally subside through day 3 and should be normal by day 5-7.
The area will feel hot, like a sunburn for about the first 24 hours. This is normal. The sensation should subside after the first 24 hours and by the second day shouldn’t feel hot anymore.
The treatment area will feel tight both immediately after the procedure and for the first 2 to 4 days.
There may be some weeping, this is normal and part of your body’s natural healing.
You will likely experience the area feeling slightly itchy from about days 2-5.
Keep the carbon dots dry for 2 days.
Do not cover them with any ointment, salve, oil, lotion or any other topical application other than the medicated concealer provided by New Skin by Lynn.
Do not apply makeup or cosmetics to the treated area until the carbon dots have shed.
Keep the carbon dots free from clothing, toweling, etc.
Keep the carbon dots OUT OF THE SUN.
NO EXERCISE for the first 3 days.
Avoid any direct sun exposure for 6 weeks
Around day 5 the dots will begin to shed naturally, on their own, and this will continue for around 7-10 days. Allow this shedding to happen naturally, do not encourage or force this process.
By day 10 your carbon dots should be gone and you can resume your usual skin care, physical activity and makeup use as normal.
After 10 days please make sure to apply a minimum of SPF30 daily on the treatment area to avoid pigmentation.
REMEMBER: It is very important to keep the area out of direct sunlight for 6 weeks.
Microneedling Session
Following the right pre-treatment instructions ensures that your treatment will go smoothly and helps minimize side effects.
- 6 months prior: Avoid Accutane in the six months prior to beginning your treatment sessions.
- 2 weeks prior: Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn
- 1 week prior: Avoid blood thinning agents (including Vitamin E) because bruising is a common side effect of microneedling.
- 5-7 days prior: Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated
- 3 days prior: Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil. These will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin rejuvenation..
- 2 days prior: If you’re prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days before as well as on the day of the treatment
- 24-48 hours prior - Avoid the following:
*Alcohol
* Aspirin
* Caffeine
* Facial acids (Retin A, salicylic, glycolic)
Do not shave the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there’s dense hair present in the treatment area, shave the day before you arrive for your appointment.
Staying well-hydrated is also crucial to ensuring excellent results — this applies to the day before your treatment and should continue well into the microneedling aftercare process. Instead of the normal 64 ounces per day, try to increase that to 80 oz (10 cups) especially if you have been enjoying caffeine or alcohol recently.
Prior to your appointment, remove all makeup and thoroughly cleanse your skin.
